The Founding of CareCancer Society (Singapore) CareCancer Society (Singapore) started as a small group of cancer patients in 1992 when Mr Wang Chung Chen Billy was diagnosed with leukemia. In this weekly gathering, they shared their treatment process, listened to each other’s frustrations, problems and supported one another. Billy, with this enthusiasm for life, right attitude and being a born again Christian, was able to encourage the other patients. Hence, such weekly gathering with Billy was much cherished and precious to every patient. Billy once said that it’s only between the fellow cancer patients that they could find their common identity. Usually, they sang hymns, shared and prayed to lesser their fears and uneasiness. At the end of the day’s gathering, they would long for the coming week’s gathering. At that time, Billy hoped to use God’s love as the foundation for the group. However, Billy only had a few Christian friends among them as fellow patients and friends passed away one by one, Billy almost lost his faith and became every depressed. After 11 years, the supporting group had reduced from the original 48 members and only 2 remaining life warriors – Billy being one of the two.

These years, Billy faithfully followed God and accepted the changes and growth that God had given him. Finally, in year 2000, after having experienced many positive changes, Billy returned to MediaCorp Radio. Touched by God’s love, he shared his experience and knowledge to listeners in both Singapore and Malaysia. He not only made listeners happy but became a source of hope for cancer patients. On 10th March 2003, under the influence of Billy and some benevolent friends decided to establish CareCancer Society (Singapore) to help and support cancer patients and their families.
